Thursday, September 2nd I found myself viewing videos posted on littlemountainhomeopathy.com of autistic children that mirrored our 5 year old little girl, Olive. I was in tears to think of the possible cures found by homeopathic remedies that were helping thousands of children diagnosed with Autism. I immediately called Sonya Mcleod, BA, DCH (Dr Sonya is how she is addressed in our home) and asked if she would visit with my little girl. The family drove in to Vancouver from Port Moody (even with skeptical Dad) and sat with Sonya for 2 hours, she took notes, asked numerous questions and basically studied Olive during our visit. Within 2 weeks Olive was on her first dose of “Remedy” and within 3 days I saw remarkable effects.
Olive is a happy, well-behaved, fun-loving little girl but it was her awareness …her inability to read facial expressions, communicate verbally, understand reasoning that came easy to her 2 year old little sister, that hindered her. She would have tantrums of frustration when she wasn’t able to get her point across or ask for what she needed. She couldn’t participate without the support of an aide in Preschool, sitting in circle-time was far too overwhelming for her, trying to communicate the need to use the bathroom without words was devastating. I would keep sending her to school wondering if she would ever know why I would keep taking her there.
Olive is now in a regular Kindergarten program and loves to go to school, she beams from ear to ear when I talk about school and the friends she sees everyday. Her language is maturing, like a 15 month old learning all her new words. She has mastered the “potty” at home and at school. Sits during story time, music and library (activities at school). Makes eye contact with all her peers at school and consistently asks different children to participate in an activity with her. Plays pretend play, engages in activities her sister initiates, sings along with familiar songs, hugs friends and family hello when they visit and the most recent accomplishment is mastering the PEC system of communication (something we have been trying since she was 30 months old!!!)
Olive is not cured but the differences that Sonya Mcleod’s homeopathic remedies have created in Olive’s life are worth more than words can describe. We look forward to new changes in Olive everyday and seeing her potential in the future.

Abstract
Purpose
Over the years there is a significant increase in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), yet there is no standard medical treatment available for this population. Homoeopathy as reported in literature can prove to be a boon for ASD treatment as in homoeopathy patients are prescribed medicine based on specific symptoms in light of associated physical and mental aspect. A systematic review of literature was required to put together the reported information on the relation between homoeopathy and ASD. This work reviews all the related literature in-depth.
Methods
Literature on the concerned issue was searched from databases like Scopus, PubMed, ScienceDirect, JASTOR, Google Scholar, PsycINFO (psychology and psychiatry literature), and ERIC (Education Resources Information Center).
Results
In total, 19 published articles were found on the investigation of using homoeopathy in the treatment of ASD. Seventeen studies showed that homoeopathy can be effective in the treatment of ASD. Result of 1 study was inconclusive and 1 more study found homoeopathy to be not suitable in treating ASD.
Conclusions
Most reports support the use of homoeopathy in the treatment of ASD. They describe that homoeopathy efficiently control ASD symptoms and also supplements other therapies used in the treatment of ASD. Few authors suggested otherwise too.
Abstract
Background and Objectives: Childhood autism is severe and a serious disorder. A study was conducted by Spandan holistic institute of applied Homoeopathy, Mumbai, with the objective of demonstrating the usefulness of homeopathic management in autism.
Materials and Methods: Sixty autistic children of both sexes, ≤12 years were selected for this study. It was nonrandomized, self-controlled, pre and post-intervention study, wherein the initial 6 months of observation period was used as the control period and the same patients were thereafter treated for 1 year and compared with post-intervention findings.
Results: The study demonstrated significant improvement of autistic features with mean change in ATEC score (ATEC 1 -pre-treatment with ATEC 5 -post-treatment) was 15.12 and ATEC mean percent change was 19.03. Statistically significant changes in ATEC scores were observed in all the quarters analyzed through repeated measures ANOVA, with F-value 135.952, P = 0.0001. An impact was observed on all core autistic features, which included communication, 12.61%, socialization, 17%, sensory awareness, 18.82%, and health and behavior, 29% (P = 0.0001). Significant improvement was observed in behavior by Autistic Hyperactivity Scale, AHS 1 36 to AHS 5 14.30 with F-value 210.599 (P = 0.0001). Outcome assessment was carried out using MANOVA, which showed statistically significant changes in post-treatment scores, P < 0.005. Total 88.34% cases showed improvement, 8.33% showed status quo, and 3.33% cases worsened. Nine out of 60 cases showed a reversal of CARS putting them into non-autistic zone, P = 0.0001. A sharp decrease (34%) in ATEC scores, in the first quarter implied positive effect of homoeopathic medicines, prescribed, as per the homoeopathic principles.
Conclusion: The study has demonstrated usefulness of homoeopathic treatment in management of neuropsychological dysfunction in childhood autism disorder, which is reflected in significant reduction of hyperactivity, behavioral dysfunction, sensory impairment as well as communication difficulty. This was demonstrated well in psychosocial adaptation of autistic children.
